Acetylcysteine is used to help prevent or lessen liver damage caused by an overdose of acetaminophen.

Pharmacology and mechanism of action of the drug
It exhibits its mucolytic action through its free sulfhydryl group that breaks up the disulfide linkages of mucoproteins, thus reducing mucous viscosity; this action may also benefit patients with ocular mucus abnormality.
Acetylcysteine can cause shortness of breath due to muscle cramping of the airways (bronchospasms) especially in patients with asthma. If this occurs, immediately stop the treatment and consult a doctor. If you have or have had a peptic ulcer, as NACSYS 600 mg effervescent tablets may irritate your gastric wall.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store in the original package to protect against moisture.
Dissolve one to two effervescent tablets in a glass of cold water and drink daily, as prescribed by your doctor.
