Background
 Minocycline was patented in 1961 and came into commercial use in 1971. It is available as a generic medication. In 2021, it was the 229th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 1 million prescriptions.

Pharmacology and mechanism of action of the drug
Inhibits protein synthesis and thus bacterial growth by binding to 30S and possibly 50S ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria.

This medicine may darken the color of your skin, nails, eyes, teeth, gums, or scars. Talk with your doctor if you or your child have any concerns. Minocycline may cause diarrhea, and in some cases it can be severe. It may occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.
